INTEL LAUNCHES FASTEST CHIP
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Intel Corporation has introduced its new superfast microprocessor for desktop computers. The Pentium Pro blazes along at speeds of 150 to 200 megahertz, compared with 133 for the fastest Pentium now in service. The new chips are designed for workstations and servers used for intensive number crunching by scientific and technical workers, or by people developing multimedia programs. They are also intended to power computers that are the nerve centres of electronic networks in companies and other organizations. Compaq Computer Corp., Intergraph Corp., Hewlett-Packard, Digital Equipment Corp. and AT&T Global Information Solutions, all based in the U.S., are some of the companies that will be shipping machines with the new chip installed. Advertising for the Pentium Pro will be handled by the individual computer companies.
