TALIGENT SOFTWARE
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Taligent is releasing its first piece of software next month, called CommonPoint. The software is a version of object-oriented technology, which is an advanced way of writing computer programs where chunks of software are combined to create programs. The program will be folded into the operating systems of computers made by International Business Machines Corp., Apple Computer and Hewlett-Packard, all co-owners of Taligent. IBM will be the first to incorporate the software into the operating system used on its computer workstations. IBM will also use CommonPoint in its OS/2 software for personal computers. Taligent is targeting corporate software developers, and expects to have CommonPoint programs ready for in-house use by the end of the year. In addition, the company is developing ways for the program to work along side Microsoft's Windows 95 operating system.
