PJA STARTS SPORTS MARKETING ARM

Palmer Jarvis Communications of Vancouver has formed a sports and event marketing division called First Event. The new unit is headquartered in Winnipeg and headed up by Rod Palson, vice-president and co-founder of PJA's Winnipeg office. First Event is represented in the U.S. by freelance sports marketing consultant Jack Vincent. The company's Latin America agents are Vincent and Carlos Garcia, a Spanish-language journalist who is also the honorary consul to Uruguay. PJA Vancouver co-founder Peter Fassbender is heading up First Event's Vancouver office. The division has the international sponsorship marketing rights for the 1999 Pan American Games. It outbid two other firms in July for the contract. Other clients include the 1996 Manitoba Games, the 1997 Canada Games, the 1996 World Winter Cities Conference and Kerry Burtnyk's World Curling Championship team.
