SPORTS TAB BATTLE IN VANCOUVER

Toronto Sun Publishing Corp. and rival Southam Inc. are in a battle to win sports fans as readers in Vancouver. Last week Toronto-based Sun Publishing launched its weekly 48-page tabloid, Sports Only, hoping to sell about 20,000 copies at newsstands. Southam counterattacked by hiring more sports writers for its tabloid The Province and increasing the size of Monday and Thursday sports sections. Caught in the middle is Sports Vue, a locally-owned weekly with a circulation of 20,000.
