SONY HAS PERMANENT PRESIDENT
By Adnews Staff
Sony Computer Entertainment America, the division of the Japanese-based multinational that markets the PlayStation video game in North America, has a new president. During the past weekend, Sony said Martin Homlish has decided to take on the role permanently. He was hired on a temporary basis in August when Steve Race left the post after disagreements with Japanese executives over the marketing and promotion of the 32-bit PlayStation system. Most recently Homlish was a Sony Electronics senior vice-president. He will be working under Bruce Stein who has been named president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, an umbrella organization that has Sony Computer Entertainment America as one of its divisions. Previously he was a consultant with Dreamworks SKG. He has also worked at Hasbro Inc. and Mattel Inc. Stein replaces Olaf Olafsson who was shifted to another part of the Sony organization after disagreeing with Japanese executives over the pricing of the PlayStation. The PlayStation launch has been almost too successful for Sony. Demand has outstripped supply so greatly that the company won't be able to fill all the Christmas orders.
