CANADA SELLING NICENESS

The Canadian Tourism Commission will try to bring more U.S. visitors across the border this winter by showing Canada as a place of spiritual renewal. In January the organization will launch a TV and print campaign in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, playing up the fact that Canada is peaceful and safe. The strategy is to make Canada stand out from the babble of advertisers playing up things to see and do. One CTC ad shows someone flipping TV channels with a remote control, catching glimpses of loud and frantic shows such as the O.J. Simpson trial and the Tonight Show. Suddenly there is silence and a shot of a whale jumping out of the water into a sunset. The campaign was created by Vickers & Benson Advertising of Toronto.
