GM NAMES BRAND MANAGERS

U.S.-based General Motors Corp. has named its first 29 brand managers. beginning early in 1996, each will take over responsibility for building image, developing advertising and establishing prices for one or more models. All new brand managers come from within GM ranks. Another six will be chosen outside the auto industry. GM chair John Smale said he was bringing in the brand system when he joined the auto maker last May. He was previously president of Procter & Gamble, the company that pioneered the concept of brand management.
