WATER SAFETY CAMPAIGNS

CKCO Television is launching the "Be a Responsible Boater" program on June 13. The campaign consists of eight television PSAs focusing on high-risk boating scenes and posters. In addition, CKCO is holding five press conferences in Ontario to promote safe boating. Running until Thanksgiving, the ads were created by Blaicher Marketing Inc. of Barrie, Ont. Sponsors of the program are: Fox 40 Whistle, Mustang Survival, Ministry of the Attorney-General's Countermeasures Office, Canadian Power and Sail Squadron, Molson Breweries' Ontario division, Yamaha Motor Ltd. and the Ontario Provincial Police. Separately, Molson began running its Take Care on the Water program last month. It has a team that is travelling to recreational events in Ontario to provide on-water instruction and guidelines on the proper operation of personal watercraft. It also reminds boaters and cottagers of the importance of the responsible use of alcohol while on the water. In addition, they will distribute safety tip cards at the clinics and marinas. This program is also sponsored by the Ontario Marina Operators Association.
