HOWARD JOHNSON BUYS RAMADA
By Adnews Staff
AFM Hospitality Corp., operator of Howard Johnson Hotels in Canada, is buying Ramada Franchise Canada. AFM has expansion plans for Canada. It expects to have 50 Ramada and 50 Howard Johnson properties by the end of the decade. Currently, there are 27 Ramada Hotels and 37 Howard Johnsons. Advertising for Ramada is done by the Cundari Group of Toronto while AFM creates its ads in-house. There are no plans to change this arrangement, franchising and management executive vice-president Stephen Phillips told Adnews yesterday. The deal is subject to a definitive purchase agreement and certain approvals.
