CP HOTELS SHORT LIST

Two unnamed agencies are going head-to-head for the CP Hotels & Resorts account. A decision will be made in two weeks, marketing vice-president Brian Richardson told Adnews this week. The company started with a long list of 11 agencies, then pared it down to four and then two. Toronto-based BBDO Canada had been doing advertising for the hotel chain, but resigned because CP put the Alberta portion up for grabs. When BBDO took over McKim Advertising at the beginning of 1992, it inherited CP, an account which had been with McKim since 1916. Carol Communications of Calgary won the Alberta business about a month ago and will launch a fall campaign. The annual advertising budget for CP Hotels is between $2 million and $3 million.
