Canadian Geographic, Trans Canada Trail begin treasure hunt

The Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the Trans Canada Trail have begun a joint promotion called "The Great Treasure Hunt" to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the hiking trail becoming fully nationally connected.

As part of the initiative, 100 boxes have been hidden along the trail. The first consumer to find a box will receive a $100 gift card from Mountain Equipment Co-op and a one-year subscription to Canadian Geographic magazine. All consumers who find a box can enter a weekly draw for a $250 MEC gift card, a Nikon camera, a Spot GPS device, a Keen gift card and a one-year magazine subscription. At the end of the promotion, one grand prize winner will receive a trip for two from One Ocean Expeditions.

Beginning on Aug. 26, consumers can visit a website at <https://www.cangeotravel.ca/greattrailtreasurehunt> for weekly clues to the locations of the boxes. The contest will run until Oct. 31.

"Helping Canadians to learn more about Canada and its geography is the mandate of the RCGS," said John Geiger, CEO of the society. "'The Great Trail Treasure Hunt' will entice Canadians to get off the couch and explore over 100 trail sections, both land and water, across Canada. It's a fun, healthy way to learn more about Canada."
