SEARS LAUNCHES LARGE LITERACY PROJECT

Last week, almost two million school children across Canada, from kindergarten to grade three, took home a new book called Born to Read and Write. Authored by renowned cartoonist Ben Wicks, the book is sponsored by Sears Canada and is part of a campaign designed to encourage reading and writing among Canadian children. The book is full of illustrations and ideas parents can use to introduce words and language to youngsters. It's also being sold in 110 Sears department stores across the country. Sears will donate all proceeds from sales of the book to local children's charities. Born to Read and Write is being supported by a national tour featuring Wicks which will hit 23 Canadian stores. In-store posters and print ads in local papers will promote the tour. Mediacom Inc. of Toronto created the posters, while The Gaylord Group Ltd. of Toronto handled the print ads.
