Alzheimer Society begins Dementia Friends program

The Alzheimer Society of Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada have begun a joint initiative called "Dementia Friends Canada." The two-year campaign will consist of social media activities, online videos and a website at <http://www.dementiafriends.ca>. The program will work to raise awareness of dementia in Canada and how to support those with the disease in communities. The program will encourage Canadians to register at the website as a Dementia Friend.

"Our government understands the tremendous impacts dementia has on those diagnosed with it, their families and their communities," said Minister of Health Rona Ambrose. "Dementia Friends Canada will change the way we think, act and talk about dementia in this country. I encourage all Canadians to become a dementia friend and help make life better for Canadians affected by it."
