Alzheimer Society of Canada begins online campaign

The Toronto-based Alzheimer Society of Canada has begun a new campaign called "In It For Alz" to coincide with Alzheimer Awareness Month. The campaign includes an online video featuring television personality Darren Dreger, whose step-father was recently diagnosed with dementia. The video is accompanied by a website at <http://www.alzheimer.ca/initforalz> that also offers personal stories from other Canadians impacted by dementia. Social media activities are also in use. The initiative encourages consumers to donate in order to support research into the disease.

"This is a cause that's close to my heart and I'm proud to lend my support to the campaign," said Dreger. "We need to get over our uneasiness about dementia and start to recognize and talk about it more openly. Research is a top priority if we're to find a cure for people like my step-dad, and we need to turn research into better resources for caregivers like my mom."
