Kobo begins mystery contest

Toronto-based electronic book reader company Kobo has begun a contest promotion called "Going, Going, Gone." Consumers can participate in the mystery-themed contest by reading three free short stories and finding a series of clues. The three original stories, by mystery writer Melissa Yi, will be released at two-week intervals at the Kobo online store. Each story will contain clues to an entry code. Three correct entry codes will be required to enter the contest. Participants will also receive extra entries for sharing the contest via social media sites. The winner will receive a Kobo Aura H2O and $5,000. The six-week contest will close on Oct. 10.

"Blockbuster thrillers, such as Gillian Flynn's Dark Places and Gone Girl, have always transported readers to new worlds," said Robyn Baldwin, marketing manager at Kobo. "We've partnered on this exciting project with hot up-and-coming mystery writer Melissa Yi to take that idea to a whole new level. Booklovers will delve deeper than ever before into the kind of chilling mysteries that make the works of Gillian Flynn so incredibly popular, getting the chance to play detective in a fresh and exciting way."

Kobo is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Rakuten.
