Good Shepherd Ministries conducts HomelessTurkey campaign

Toronto-based charitable organization Good Shepherd Ministries has begun a Thanksgiving-themed social media campaign. During the promotion, for each 1,000 Twitter messages including the tag "#HomelessTurkey," 10 turkeys will be donated to the organization's annual Thanksgiving meal for homeless people in Toronto. In addition, each message will trigger the release of some feed to three turkeys that can be viewed on a live webcam at HomelessTurkey.com. The video stream will also run for three days on a display at the intersection of Queen and Soho Streets. Promotional workers in attendance will distribute information about Good Shepherd and its work. The campaign, which will run from Oct. 9 to 11, was developed by Blackjet of Toronto.

"It's hard to give money or food to every homeless person you pass on the street, but it's very easy to tweet," said David Lynch, executive director of Good Shepherd. "Not only can Toronto help us feed as many people as possible this holiday season, but by spreading the word socially, they are also helping us raise awareness for the food and shelter Good Shepherd provides year-round for our city's less fortunate."
