CAMPBELL CONSOLIDATING

The Campbell Soup Company in Camden, New Jersey is consolidating its global account with three or four agencies, down from its current roster of eight. The review includes all Campbell brands, which include Godiva chocolates, Mrs. Paul's frozen fish, Pepperidge Farm baked goods, Prego spaghetti sauces, Swanson TV dinners and Vlasic pickles. All current agencies are in the competition: Bates USA, BBDO Worldwide, FCB/Leber Katz Partners, Margeotes/Fertitta & Partners, Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worldwide, all of New York; Bayer Bess Vanderwarker of Chicago and Temerlin McClain of Irving, Texas. In Canada, advertising and media buying is done by Bates Canada and BBDO Canada both of Toronto. Campbell officials were unavailable yesterday to comment on how the consolidation will affect Canada. Last week Saatchi in New York was given the North American Pepperidge Farm account. The Toronto office will handle the Canadian advertising for the brand. This week Campbell handed Margeotes/Fertitta the Barilla pasta sauces business. Margeotes also does advertising for Godiva chocolates. FCB has been given the Swanson canned poultry account, which was previously handled on a project basis by Eicoff & Company of Chicago. In January, Campbell consolidated its media buying with True North Media of New York.
