Transcontinental develops test messaging service for TTC
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Transcontinental has begun operating a text messaging service for the Toronto Transit Commission. The service allows TTC users to receive arrival times for streetcars using a cellphone or other wireless device. Each streetcar stop now has a five-digit identification number that can be sent as a text message to the service to retrieve the arrival time of the next car, as determined by a GPS tracking system. "The TTC is the third largest public transit system in North America servicing some 4.5 million people in the Greater Toronto Area," said Christian Trudeau, president of the marketing communications sector at Transcontinental. "The mobile solution we've developed allows the TTC to provide its customers the timely, accurate information they need to help them get where they want to be."
