Ontario Nurses' Association begins awareness campaign

The Ontario Nurses' Association began a multi-media advertising campaign this week intended to raise awareness of proposed cuts to the number of registered nursing positions in that province. The campaign, called "Cutting Nurses, Cutting Care," was developed by Toronto-based Compass360. It consists of radio ads in Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston, Windsor, Ottawa, London, Sudbury, Timmins, North Bay and Thunder Bay. The six-week campaign also includes a television commercial , out-of-home ads and online materials. "Registered nursing hours are being slashed across this province as health-care facilities attempt to balance their budgets on the backs of nurses and the patients who need them," said Linda Haslam-Stroud, president of the association. "Ontarians need to understand the implications of these cuts, and they include serious risks to their health." The association represents 54,000 registered nurses and other health professionals.
