COA RAISING MONEY FOR FUTURE OLYMPIANS

The Canadian Olympic Association launched a fundraising campaign this week to raise money for future Olympic hopefuls. Canadians who donate $19.96 to the COA will have their names engraved on bricks that will be placed in one of eleven Olympic-themed gardens. The cities the gardens will likely be developed in include: Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary, Halifax and Montreal. Each garden will be landscaped to include the bricks, a flower-bed or water design of the five Olympic Rings and the Olympic Flame. The names of every athlete who has ever competed for Canada in the Olympic Games. will also be a part of the gardens. The Royal Bank of Canada is the presenting sponsor of the program. It is promoting the program using print, TV, direct mail and in-branch materials created by DDB Needham Worldwide of Toronto. In addition, the fundraising program is being featured on the back covers of 10 million Kellogg's cereal boxes. The theme for the campaign is "Make Your Mark on Olympic History." People can donate to the COA through the Royal Bank or by calling a 1-888 number. The gardens will be installed in the spring of 1997. They are being done by Scott Wentworth Landscape Group of Picton, Ont.
