WCB WARNS YOUNG B.C. WORKERS TO BE CAREFUL

The Workers' Compensation Board of B.C. launched a campaign this week aimed at workers aged 15 to 24. WCB figures show that these workers are more at risk of being injured or killed on the job than those in any other age group. WCB vice-president Ralph McGinn says in a release that "inexperience and a reluctance to make waves can result in young workers taking on tasks they haven't been trained to do." The campaign uses radio, transit shelters and mall posters to emphasize the consequences of work-related injuries and encourage young workers to call the WCB for the five most important questions they need to ask about workplace safety. The ad push is also designed to alert employers, educators, unions, youth agencies and parents about the particular needs of young workers. The ads were created by Cossette Communication-Marketing's Vancouver office.
