BC Used Oil Management Association begins awareness campaign

The BC Used Oil Management Association has begun a public awareness campaign in that province to encourage residents to recycle used oil in order to prevent it from entering the water supply and landfills. The campaign, developed by Grey Vancouver, includes radio advertising and a street promotion. Two promotional workers will tour the province over the summer in a branded hybrid vehicle. They will visit approximately 40 communities between June 1 and Aug. 31. The radio ads will break on July 9. Media planning and buying for the campaign was handled by The Media Company. “We found the statistic that one drop of oil can contaminate a million drops of water extremely compelling,” said Craig Redmond, creative director of Grey Vancouver. “By using that fact, we wanted to make a strong statement about the impact improperly disposed used oil can have on our environment and create an engaging campaign. I think we have achieved that and hope this message resonates with British Columbians.”
