MAURICE SAATCHI GETS MARS ASSIGNMENT
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Mars Inc. is working with Maurice Saatchi again. The multinational giant has hired M&C Saatchi Agency of London to work on a project for the Whiskas cat food brand. M&C will collaborate with the brand's worldwide agency, New York-based D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles of New York. Mars was a global client of Bates Worldwide, an agency belonging to British-based holding company Saatchi & Saatchi PLC, until early 1995. At that time Maurice Saatchi was ousted as chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi in a shareholder revolt and the holding company's name was changed to Cordiant. Mars was displeased with the way Maurice Saatchi was treated and moved all the business it had with Bates to other ad agencies. In Canada advertising for Mars products is done by the Toronto offices of BBDO Canada, Grey Advertising and DMB&B. Vickers & Benson Advertising of Toronto services the British Airways account for M&C Saatchi in Canada.
