NEW COMPANY TRIES TO LESSEN STING OF TAXES

King & Mann Associates of Toronto will begin advertising its tax-saving service in about six months, co-founder Grant Reed told Adnews this week. It launched a direct mail campaign this week and is considering promoting its business through telemarketing within the month. King & Mann began operations three weeks ago as a commercial property assessment and tax recovery company. If the company determines that a client's property assessment is too high it files an appeal on behalf of the client and tries to negotiate a favorable settlement with the Assessment Review Board. Warne Marketing was hired as King & Mann's agency in January, without a review. The company did speak to other agencies but chose Warne because "they evaluated our requirements more clearly than other agencies. They seemed receptive to our wants," said Reed. Warne helped to develop the company's corporate identification, prepared a brochure and created the direct mail campaign. King & Mann is currently operating only in Ontario but plans to be across Canada by the end of 1997. The company is owned by Reed and partner Bob Heathcote, who were previously involved in a business in England that Reed said they did not want to talk about.
