Toronto Public Library conducts promotion

The Toronto Public Library has begun a promotion to coincide with Freedom to Read Week, which is taking place from Feb. 24 to March 1. The event promotes the importance of intellectual freedom and open access to diverse ideas and perspectives. During the event, the library will offer limited edition library cards and tote bags displaying one of three slogans in support of freedom to read. The library will also offer a reading list of books that have been the target of attempted bans in North America. It will also host two events featuring discusssions of intellectual freedom.
“We need to stand up and speak out for intellectual freedom today more than ever to ensure voices of marginalized and equity-deserving communities are not silenced,” said Vickery Bowles, city librarian at the Toronto Public Library. “Toronto Public Library, along with public libraries across North America, will continue to lead in protecting intellectual freedom. This Freedom to Read Week, I encourage everyone to learn more about the importance of intellectual freedom and join us in celebrating their right to read freely.”
