GREAT BRANDS MAKING SPLASH FOR BOTTLED WATER
By Adnews Staff
Great Brands of Europe launched a new brand of bottled water in the United States last week, which is imported from Quebec but not sold in Canada. Dannon Natural Spring Water is bottled by Aquaterra Corp. in the Montreal suburb of St-Laurent. Great Brands, a unit of the the French Danone Group, is not saying at the moment if the Dannon water will be sold in Canada or elsewhere in the future. "We cannot reveal any plans about other launch markets," Great Brands spokesman Michael Meurwirth said yesterday from the U.S. headquarters of Great Brands in Greenwich, Connecticut. A New York Times report says Great Brands is spending from $15 million(US) to $20 million on advertising for the spring water in large urban markets. The launch campaign began with sampling in Times Square. Great Brands has given the U.S. ad account for the new product to Grey Advertising's New York office. Grey already handles Dannon yogurt which is also marketed by Great Brands. The latter also sells Evian water in North America, imported from France. In Canada TBWA Chiat/Day's Toronto office handles Evian advertising.
