TRACKER KEEPS TRACK OF SAMSONITE

Samsonite Canada has signed up The Tracker Corp. of Toronto to add a security bonus to Samsonite luggage. Tracker provides a service that helps people find lost or stolen articles. Under the deal with Samsonite, luggage purchasers will be given a card to mail back to Tracker for a free security label. If the luggage disappears and someone else finds it, the finder can call the number on the label to report the lost bag. The item will be sent to a company in the Tracker network and the label scanned to bring up the owner's name on a computer. Tracker will provide the point-of-sale material for Samsonite to promote the deal. Tracker is currently deciding how it will handle its advertising. It will either use one of two Toronto agencies, Adex or Brian Bimm Communications, or handle the job in-house. Tracker has recently has been hiring agencies on a project basis. When Tracker first launched in Canada in 1994 it hired Harrod & Mirlin of Toronto. After a dispute between agency and client, Tracker paid the agency money owed and the two parted ways. Tracker has also used TBWA Chiat/Day of Toronto.
