IKEA TAKES PHONE ORDERS IN QUEBEC
By Adnews Staff
Burlington, Ont.-based IKEA Canada will close its store in Quebec City next month and start testing a phone order system there. Customers will be able to order from a catalogue by calling a 1-800 number or sending a fax. The home furnishings company began testing the idea last January in certain areas of British Columbia and Alberta. If the phone order business is successful it will be expanded, and advertising for it will begin next year. IKEA advertising is done by Roche Macaulay & Partners and Ammirati & Puris/Lintas, both of Toronto. IKEA is closing its Quebec City store on April 12. The outlet has been operating for 14 years but has not been profitable. IKEA operates stores in seven other Canadian cities: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Burlington, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
