KMART TESTS CREDIT CARD IN U.S.

Kmart Corp. in the U.S. is following its Canadian subsidiary into the credit card business. The Michigan-based retailer will start testing its own Kmart credit card next week in 11 markets. After 90 days, if the card is successful Kmart will roll it out to the rest of the U.S. The card will provide rebates as high as 6% for cumulative purchases throughout the year. Kmart Canada has had a private label credit card since 1992. The retailer occasionally runs rebate promotions for the card and gives a 10% discount on the first purchase a customer makes with it.
