HMV OPENS NEW SUPERSTORE

HMV Canada has moved its Montreal store and increased its size by almost 50%. The new marketplace for music opens on Saturday. The 30,000 square-foot outlet has 83 CD listening posts. Two unique feature are a stage and a DJ booth. Both can be seen from the street so passersby can catch the acts that HMV will bring to the store. An ad push for the superstore began this week, using print, radio, TV and transit, all created by TAXI Advertising & Design of Montreal. Nextmedia of Toronto does media buying. HMV had close to $53 million in sales in 1995 in its 18 Quebec stores, which means Quebec now represents 24% of HMV's total Canadian market share. The music retailer is planning to open another new store in the province of Quebec, and to expand four existing stores.
