HOME DEPOT CHOOSES PRESIDENT

Annette Verschuren has moved from selling hobby materials to selling hardware and lumber. The Home Depot home improvement chain has appointed Verschuren president of its Canadian division. Previously she was running crafts retailer Michaels of Canada, which she founded in 1993. Verschuren has replaced Stephen Bebis who left the company late last year after two years on the job. During the transition, Home Depot Canada has been managed by operations vice-president Buz Smith and merchandising vice-president Murray Bozniak. Home Depot, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, started up Home Depot Canada in March, 1994. The U.S. company owns 75% of its Canadian subsidiary and The Molson Companies, based in Toronto, owns 25%. Home Depot has 19 stores in Canada and plans to open five new stores here this year. It operates 406 outlets in the U.S.
