COMPAQ STILL NUMBER ONE

Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Texas has pulled farther ahead in the international race to sell personal computer servers and super servers. According to the numbers for the second quarter of 1995 from International Data Corporation, Compaq has 41% of the market for these machines used to control computer networks. Its nearest competitor, International Business Machines Corp., has 14%. Hewlett-Packard holds a 13% share and Digital Equipment Corporation 6%. In Canada, Compaq has 40% of the market. While Compaq increased its market share from the first to the second quarter, according to International Data, IBM and H-P lost share. Compaq has held the number one position in worldwide server shipments since 1993.
