TELESAT NAMES ITS SATELLITE
By Adnews Staff
Telesat Canada of Ottawa has a name for its communications satellite. The company has chosen Nimiq, an Inuit word for any object or force that unites things or brings them together. Telesat launched a contest to name the satellite last November. The contest was promoted using Web site ads and PR done by Environics Communications of Toronto. It received 36,000 entries. The winning entry was given by Sheila Rogers, a physiotherapist from Nepean, Ont. She will receive a prize package which includes a trip to San Francisco, as well as products from contest partners: ExpressVu Inc., Xerox, The Document Company and EDD Inc.
