WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BLINK?

U.S.-based Canon Inc. introduced two new camcorders to the North American market on Sept. 1, called the ES5000 and ES90. The 5000 has technology that lets a user operate the camera's features with the movement of an eye. The camera detects where your eye is focusing while you look through the viewfinder. This way you can start or stop recording, for example, or call up an instant replay of what you have just recorded, simply by looking at the right spot inside the camera. In addition, the 5000's digital zooming feature expands the capability of the 80mm telephoto lens up to a 40X enlargement. This is the equivalent of putting a 1480 mm lens on an ordinary 35 mm camera. The camcorder also has a color viewfinder and image stabilization to ensure shake-free pictures. The ES90 has a 12X power zoom lens, color viewfinder, insert editing, three auto exposure modes and backlight compensation. In Canada, print advertising for both models, created by Lackey Communications of Toronto, will begin in October.
