TOURISM BODY TO SEEK ADVERTISING HELP

The Alberta Tourism Partnership will be looking for ad agency help. What hasn't been decided yet is whether a single agency will be hired or a number of shops will be given assignments as projects, the partnership's new president Tom McCabe told Adnews yesterday. No deadline has been set for a decision. McCabe was previously a vice-president in Calgary with the Bank of Montreal, which had been his employer for 35 years. He has held senior positions across Canada in human resources, marketing, business planning, risk management strategy and project management. The partnership was set up in May to take over tourism marketing from the provincial government, which has set a policy of privatizing its Crown corporations. The partnership is made up of the provincial government and business representatives from six Alberta regions. It will have offices in Calgary and Edmonton. The regions are Alberta's Northland, the Rockies, Edmonton, the Heartland, Calgary and Southern Alberta. Late last year the Alberta Department of Economic Development and Tourism hired a consortium of agencies to develop a campaign to persuade Abertans to vacation in their own province. While the partnership will "honor commitments" made with the agencies, it has not been decided if the campaign will run, said McCabe. The agency consortium consists of Highwood Communications, Rose Country Communications and Derek Coke-Kerr and Associates.
