ORCA BAY DEBUTS NEW ARENA

Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment of Vancouver is holding a Grand Debut week to celebrate the opening its General Motors Place arena on Sept. 16. Print and radio advertising for the arena, which was created in-house, will begin next week. During the week, there will be a community open house, a concert by Bryan Adams, an NHL exhibition game featuring the Vancouver Canucks, a concert by Canadian artists and a figure skating performance by Kurt Browning and Kristi Yamaguchi. Orca Bay is a partnership of the Griffiths family of Vancouver and John McCaw of Seattle. Previously, the working title of the venture was Northwest Entertainment Group. The Orca Bay corporate identity was developed by Ray Mah Design of Vancouver. Orca Bay has four divisions: the Vancouver Canucks, the Vancouver Grizzlies of the NBA , Winning Spirit retail stores and General Motors Place. Advertising for the Grizzlies is done by Palmer Jarvis Communications of Vancouver. Glennie Stamnes Strategies of Vancouver creates ads for the Canucks. Steve Vrlak & Associates of Vancouver coordinates the other two agencies when they do advertising for the sports teams.
