CALVIN KLEIN DROP[S CAMPAIGN "BORDERING ON PORNO"
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Calvin Klein is withdrawing its latest print campaign in the United States because critics say it borders on child pornography. In Canada, where the media buy for the ads was done by BCP's Toronto office, the ads aren't being pulled because different images were chosen and there haven't been any complaints, agency spokesperson Rosita Thomas told Adnews yesterday. The campaign uses transit, TV and print centring around provocatively posed young people. The ads were created by Calvin Klein's in-house agency CRK Advertising. One U.S. TV spot shows a young boy with his shirt off, talking to an off-screen director who says, "Nice body. Do you work out?" A print ad shows a young girl in a miniskirt with her legs apart, exposing her underwear. Calvin Klein says the ads have been misinterpreted. They are intended to demonstrate the independence and character of young people today.
