Air Canada unveiled its sponsorship plans this week for the Canadian Olympic Association. The company is the official airline for Canadian Olympic athletes competing in the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan in February. In support of its sponsorhip, Air Canada proclaimed Dec. 10 as "a day devoted to the Olympic spirit." On this day, the airline donated five Aeroplans miles to Canada's athletes for every 100 Aeroplan miles accumulated by travels on flights with Air Canada and its connectors. The donation will be added to the travel bonuses already offered to the Olympic team. In addition, Air Canada launched an outdoor campaign in the color of the Olympic rings that highlight the theme of Canadians supporting their team. Air Canada will also sponsor interviews with athletes during Hockey Night in Canada and Soiree du Hockey. The campaign was created by Marketel of Montreal. Olympic Athletes will be travelling to the Olympic games on an air Canda plane adorned with giant decals showing a hockey goalie sporting the Canadian team colors, as well as adownhill skier.
