COMPUTER SALES JUMP DURING FOURTH QUARTER

U.S. computer sales will grow 21% this quarter, according to figures by International Data Corp. of Framingham, Massachusetts. The boost is attributed to the sale of low-price consumer personal computers. Next years, U.S. sales are expected to jumpe 17%, while global sales will increase 15% this quarter and 13.5% next year. IDS expects grwoth to be depressed by economic turmoil in Asia. The company also says that the industry large four global computer companies will continue to pick up share next year at the expense of smaller brands. The four companies are: Compaq Computer Corp., International Business Machines Corp., Dell Computer Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co.
