GENERAL MILLS GOES OLYMPIC

General Mills Canada Inc., based in Etobicoke, Ont., is bringing Olympic-themed products from 21 brands to store shelves this month. The 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan represent the first time General Mills has acted as a sponsor, supporting the Canadian Olympic Assoc., the men's and women's hockey teams, as well as ten individual athletes from the sports of hockey, figure skating and speed skating. General Mills products getting an Olympic treatment include Honey Nut Cheerios cereal, the packaging for which can be converted into a table-top hockey game, Lucky Charms cereal, which will include skate-shaped marshmallows, a Betty Crocker "Canada Cake" with maple-leaf-shaped sprinkles on top, and a special-edition Hamburger Helper with Olympic-themed pasta shapes. Pictures of athletes will also be featured on packages of Apple Cinnamon, Multigrain, and original Cheerios, Pop Secret popcorn and Fruit Roll-Ups, among others. The packages will also include collectible Olympic hologram trading cards featuring athlete statistics and information. As well, the packages will include special tokens which can be collected and redeemed for prizes including a Team Canada mini hockey stick, a set of six Olympic pins and Team Canada Olympic clothing.
