ADVERTISING BOOSTS VIDEO SALES

A $600,000 advertising campaign created by Echo Advertising of Toronto has helped sell a lot more video copies of the Swan Princess movie than was ever expected, says Patrice Theroux, executive-vice-president of Montreal-based Alliance Releasing. Alliance is the Canadian distributor for the video, which went on sale Aug. 1. So far 300,000 copies have been sold and Alliance expects to sell another 65,000 by year-end. Radio, TV and trade advertising began on Aug. 3, along with a co-op merchandising push with Flintstone Multiple Vitamins, Littlest Pet Shop, Energizer, Mr. Sub and Estes products. The movie is being distributed in department stores, supermarkets, discount stores, video stores and by catalogue. Alliance Releasing is a division of Alliance Communications Corporation.
