Four agencies are battling it out for the Toshiba of Canada computer account: The Gingko Group, Bozell Palmer Bonner, D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles, all of Toronto, and Promanad Communications of Mississauga, Ont. The annual advertising budget is between $2 million and $2.5 million. A three-year relationship with Chiat/Day Advertising of Toronto ended in the spring after Toshiba called a review, saying it is company policy to do so every three years. Chiat/Day created the popular "Checked It" TV commercial for Toshiba's notebook computers, a gold winner at both the Bessies and Clios, and a silver winner at the Marketing Awards. Toshiba originally solicited 22 agencies to compete. A decision is expected by the end of September.
