PFIZER TO OFFER DRUG THAT SLOWS DOWN ALZHEIMER'S

Montreal-based Pfizer Canada will launch a new dug next month that helps to lessen the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Called Aricept, the drug prevents the destruction of an important chemical associated with memory and learning and helps in the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's. Aricept will be promoted using ads in medical journals. They will be created by BCP of Montreal. Aricept Ws approved for use in the U.S. last November, in the U.K last February and in other European countries in July. Pfizer teamed up with Japanese pharmaceutical firm Eisai Co. in 1994 to develop Aricept.
