TTC PROMOTES FAMILY PASS DURING THE CNE

The Toronto Transit Commission is trying to get Torontonians to ride the rocket to the Canadian National Exhibition being held in Toronto from Aug. 15 to Sept. 1. The TTC is accepting its Family Pass throughout the CNE. Normally it can only be used on Sundays and holidays. When consumers buy the Family Pass at BiWay stores in Toronto they will receive four free CNE Kids' Grounds admission passes for children 13-years-old and under. The Family Pass gets a group of six people to the CNE, including two adults and four children under 18-years-old, or one adult and five children under 18. The pass is valid for an unlimited number of TTC rides for a whole day. In addition, the TTC is offering free parking at TTC lots on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during the CNE. The deals are being promoted using posters in subway stations, on subways and on buses. Brochures are also being used. The Communique Group of Toronto is handling the campaign. The TTC has been taking a retail approach to its advertising over the past couple of months to increase ridership. Advertising focuses more on the products the transit commission offers, such as its monthly Metropass and its Family Pass. Users of the Metropass receive unlimited use of the TTC and free parking at TTC parking lots. In the past, the TTC would partner with Toronto attractions such as theatres and the Skydome. It would promote different events and tell consumers that the TTC was the best way to get there. TTC's chief marketing officer Bob Brent joined the commission in May. He came to the TTC with a strong retail background. Most recently he was marketing director for Hunt Wesson Canada. He has also been marketing director for Pepsico's Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
