MICROSOFT TEAMS UP WITH APPLE
By Adnews Staff
Two computer rivals have called a truce. Microsoft Corp. of Redmond, Washington has made a $150 million investment in California-based Apple Computer Corp. Under the deal Microsoft will develop software for Apple's Macintosh computer systems and Apple will bundle Microsoft's Internet explorer as the default browser on its machines. The deal is expected to rebuild Apple's market share. Separately, Advertising Age has reported that a decision is imminent on which agency will be taking over the reins of Apple's worldwide account. TBWA Chiat/Day of Venice, California and Arnold Communications of Boston are battling it out for the account. Chiat/Day was Apple's agency in the 1980s. Apple's current agency is BBDO Worldwide of New York. Its Toronto office handles Canadian advertising. Apple officials in Canada would not comment on the review.
