Hudson's Bay begins holiday-themed AR promotion

Department store chain Hudson’s Bay has begun a holiday-themed augmented reality promotion that invites consumers to “step inside” its annual holiday window displays in Toronto. Consumers can participate by using a mobile device to scan a QR code at Hudson’s Bay stores, or on its social media pages, gift cards and on packages ordered from TheBay.com through the holiday season. Consumers will be able to use the screen and motion sensors of the device to examine each of the five window displays from the inside. The windows offer animatronic performances of snow being made, candy canes being packaged by a robot arm, parcels being gift wrapped by robots, a mechanical hand painting tree ornaments, and a computer sorting letters to Santa Claus.

Consumers who post an image or video of the AR presentation on social media will be entered into a draw for one of five $1,000 Hudson’s Bay gift cards. The promotion makes use of technology from Meta.

“For more than 100 years, these holiday windows have been quintessential to the Toronto experience,” said Alexander Meyer, chief customer officer at The Bay. “With the digital transcendence of this year's windows, we are creating a whole new level of connectivity for our customers, not only in Toronto but throughout Canada.”
