Torstar, Enthusiast Gaming launch AFK

Torstar and media company Enthusiast Gaming have begun a joint venture called AFK, which stands for “away from keyboard,” aimed primarily at video game enthusiasts. The property will begin rolling out this month, with an official launch in the fall. It will consist of online videos and other digital content featuring Enthusiast Gaming personalities. The property will also conduct a contest to find an additional host. Consumers can enter by submitting a video audition on the topic of the environment, a social issue, an economic issue or a cultural trend. Six finalists selected by AFK will compete in a series of challenges through the summer. The winner, who will be announced during a live event in September, will be offered a full-time position as an AFK host.

“This partnership combines the strong suits of both companies to bring a brand new and meaningful quality information source and community to gamers,” said Adrian Montgomery, CEO of Enthusiast Gaming. “This venture aligns with our fundamental business strategy of delivering premium content to our community of 300 million gaming and esports fans worldwide.”
