Toys R Us Canada conducts AR promotion

Toronto-based toy retail chain Toys R Us Canada has begun a holiday season campaign in collaboration with online messaging service Snapchat. The initiative makes use of augmented reality technology to present a number of popular toys carried by the chain. The presentation features the brand’s spokescharacter Geoffrey the Giraffe as a guide. Consumers can access the presentation through the Snapchat mobile application.

As part of the promotion, Toys R Us will release two additional AR presentations, one of which will take the form of a video game and one of which will allow users to view a 3D model of Geoffrey from the cover of the 2019 Toys R Us Holiday Toy Book.

“AR is a powerful new technology and we are excited to use it to improve the customer experience,” said Frank Juhasz, vice-president of marketing and omni-channel innovation at Toys R Us Canada. “Through this partnership with Snapchat, we’re able to bring our toys and products to life in new ways. Canadians expect this type of innovation from great retailers and we’re happy to be leading the charge.”
