Distributel, MobiTV ready new television service

Ottawa-based telecommunications provider Distributel Communications has formed an agreement with MobiTV of Emeryville, CA to develop a new mobile application-based television service. The service is intended to provide consumers with access to video content via a variety of devices. The service will be available in English and French to Distributel customers in Quebec and Ontario. The company plans to later expand the service nationally.
"With Canadians viewing more and more video content on streaming devices such as smartphones and tablets, we know that the future of TV is app-based," said Matt Stein, CEO of Distributel. "We have always been committed to bringing innovative services and choice to our customers, and this partnership allows us to offer consumers and wholesalers a great user experience through these exciting, cost-effective TV options."
