Foot Locker begins basketball promotion

Athletic apparel retail chain Foot Locker has signed a promotional agreement with professional basketball player DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors. The one-year initiative will focus on the history of basketball in Canada in an effort to increase excitement for the game in this country. The campaign was developed by BBDO.

The promotion begins with a digital component called "Original Basketball," consisting of an online video posted to YouTube. The video features players from Canadian basketball program CIA Bounce using the original rules of the game created by James Naismith in 1892. It also features a range of Nike basketball apparel. Additional creative will be released as the year continues.

"Having a partner that personifies all that Canadian basketball stands for is perfect for Foot Locker," said Patrick Walsh, vice-president of marketing at Foot Locker North America. "DeMar has the support of a whole country behind him, and showcasing the best Nike products available at Foot Locker makes him the ideal guy for the job."
